Google takes search to next level

THE world, like the World Wide Web before it, is about to be hyperlinked. Soon, you may be able to find information about almost any physical object with the click of a smartphone.

A phone using the Goggles app snaps a picture of the London Eye, and gets results (right).

This vision, once the stuff of science fiction, took a significant step forward last month when Google unveiled a smartphone application called Goggles. It allows users to search the Web, not by typing or by speaking keywords, but by snapping an image with a cell phone and feeding it into Google’s search engine.

How tall is that mountain on the horizon? Snap and get the answer. Who is the artist behind this painting? Snap and find out. What about that stadium in front of you? Snap and see a schedule of future games there.

Goggles, in essence, offers the promise to bridge the gap between the physical world and the Web.

Sites you can visit if you’re bored…really really bored

Hello friend,

I just wasted about 10 minutes clicking a stupid red button that kept telling me not to click it! That’s called bored and that’s what I am Bored is all about! There are tons and tons of useless, yet stupidly addicting games on the site that you can waste hours on. Now I don’t have that kind of time, but if you do check out a few of these games :)

How to Write Upside Down – I really liked this one! Go ahead and type in a message and then click Flip It to get the text flipped upside down. Then copy it, paste it into an email and send it off to some unknowing friends! It’ll probably be a while before you get a reply, but it’s fun, I can promise you that.

Top 13 Worst Slogan Translations - This one will give you a good laugh! I especially enjoyed Pepsi’s “Come Alive with the Pepsi Generation” being translated into “Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the grave” in Chinese!

Do Not Push The Red Button – I actually went through the entire thing until it started to repeat itself! You seriously need to have some patience or fast clicking skills to do this one.

Sawing a Man in Half - I wonder how in the world they pulled off this trick. It’s pretty cool to watch! Good stuff to send to your to co-workers who are bored also!

If you’re still bored, you can also check out Bored.com for a lot of whacky stuff too. Personally, when I’m bored, I like to use StumbleUpon to discover new and cool sites on the Internet. It’s a lot more useful than pressing an annoying red button for 10 minutes!!!

Enjoy! Any more fun sites? Post a comment! :)
